Men’s Soccer drops AAC opener at No. 22 Tennessee Wesleyan 2-1
ATHENS, Tenn. (September 9, 2022) – The Milligan University men’s soccer team dropped its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener at No. 22 Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.

ATHENS, Tenn. (September 9, 2022) – The Milligan University men's soccer team dropped its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener at No. 22 Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.
Milligan falls to 0-2-2 while the Bulldogs remain unbeaten at 2-0-2.
Tennessee Wesleyan quickly established a 2-0 lead in the game's first 20 minutes with goals in the fifth and 19th minutes. The Bulldogs owned a slim 5-3 edge in shots in the first half but none of Milligan's shots managed to be on frame.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with seven shots in the first 10:13 of the period with one shot hitting the crossbar and Ludvig Wille made a save in the 48th minute.
Mate Lengyel scored his first goal as a Buff in the 62nd minute to bring the margin to 2-1.
Tennessee Wesleyan mounted a late push to put the game away but Wille turned away three Bulldog shots on goal.
One of Milligan's final chances came in a long throw in by Ethan Bishop, but it was headed away. A long pass from Wille beyond midfield toward the penalty area after the clear was gobbled up by TWU's keeper.
TWU outshot the Buffs 20-8 and held a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wille recorded eight saves in the defeat.
Milligan heads to Union on Wednesday in for a 7:00 p.m. match.
