MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 20, 2021) – The No. 15 Milligan University men's soccer team recorded an impressive 7-0 victory over St. Andrews on Wednesday afternoon at Anglin Field.
The Buffs move to 12-2 on the season and 8-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. St. Andrews moves to 8-5-1, 6-4 AAC. Last season, the Knights were the only team to defeat the Buffs in the regular season and played Milligan tight in an AAC quarterfinal.
After neither team registered a shot over the first 10-plus minutes of action, Charlie Betts put the Buffs on the scoreboard with his eighth goal of the season. Raphael Sefriou hit Betts up the left sideline, who blasted a ball into a defender and into the net to give Milligan a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, Betts sent a cross into the box to a waiting Alex Frances, who redirected in his seventh tally of the season to give Milligan a 2-0 advantage.
Following a corner kick in the 25th minute, Odin Solheim sent a ball across the box to a waiting Alexsander Krogh, who converted his fourth goal of the season.
Krogh set up Luke Bennett's second goal of the season in the final minute of the first half as the Buffs carried a 4-0 advantage into halftime.
For the first half, Milligan owned a 6-1 advantage in shots and 6-0 edge in shots on goal.
Three minutes into the second half, Victor Castel connected with Betts for the Australian's second goal of the day. In the 59th minute, Betts scored his third goal of the day from a cross by Serfriou to put the Buffs ahead 6-0.
Jett Carter joined the scoring frenzy in the 70th minute after Sondre Haaland redirected a Krogh feed to Carter for his 10th goal of the year.
The Buffs held St. Andrews off the scoreboard to earn a 7-0 shutout victory. Milligan outshot the Knights 16-6 on the day and 10-4 in shots on goal.
Betts finished with three goals and one assist. Krogh had four points off a goal and two assists.
