MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 22, 2021) – After leading the Milligan University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan to secure the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season title, Elies Sebbouh and Charlie Betts have been named AAC men's soccer players of the week. The AAC made the announcement Monday afternoon for the week ending March 21.
Sebbouh and Betts each won for the first time in their careers while bringing Milligan's tally this season to 11 men's soccer winners. The Buffs have swept the award five times this season, including four of the last five. Seven Buffs have won the award this season.
Sebbouh was a key part of Milligan's defensive effort and earned the defensive player of the week honor as a result. Betts, at the other end of the pitch, was named offensive player of the week for his effort in scoring the game winner in the 67th minute. Betts, and Luke Bennett who scored a first-half equalizer, did something very few people had done this season as Tennessee Wesleyan had only conceded four goals in the nine previous AAC matches.
With the win, Milligan (10-1, 9-1 AAC) secured the AAC regular-season title with co-champion Reinhardt (9-1 AAC). The Buffs, who defeated Reinhardt 1-0 last fall, will take the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament, set to begin with a home match against St. Andrews on Monday, March 29, at 7 p.m.
