MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 8, 2021) – After helping their team defeat No. 14 West Virginia Tech last week in the first match of the spring, Milligan University's Marius Grytdal and Inaki Moreno have been named Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer players of the week. The AAC made the announcement Monday afternoon for the week ending March 7.
This marks the first AAC weekly award for Grytdal and second weekly award from Moreno, both coming this season. In fact, this is the third straight and fourth time this season the Buffaloes swept the award, with Moreno winning it near the end of last fall.
Milligan's dominance of the award this season includes nine total wins of it.
The pair was instrumental in Milligan knocking off No. 14 WVU Tech in the only game of last week. Grytdal anchored the defense to shut Tech down while Moreno scored two goals and assisted the third.
Grytdal's effort on defense included helping the Milligan back line limit a WVU Tech team who was averaging 19.6 shots per game and 4.4 goals per game to only three shots on goal. Moreno contributed to all three goals in scoring the eventual winner while assisting the middle goal to help give Milligan some cushion in the first half.
Grytdal, Moreno and the Buffs have two important matches coming up, with AAC regular-season championship implications on the line. First, the Buffs host CIU Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Anglin Field. They will then go to Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, March 18. Victory in both matches would secure the AAC regular-season title.
