LAURINBURG, N.C. (Oct. 21, 2020) – Despite an early lead which saw Alex Frances put the Buffs on top in just the sixth minute, the Milligan University men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 defeat to St. Andrews Wednesday on the road. The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for the Buffs to start this season, although they remained only three points out of first place in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Frances' goal was his third of the season and gave the Buffs a huge spark in the early going. However, St. Andrews found a way to equalize in the 25th minute before finding the back of the net three times in the second half.
Final tallies were relatively close, as St. Andrews outshot Milligan 19-16, including 10-6 on shots on goal. The Knights also had a slight edge in corner kicks at 4-3, and goalkeepers Jan Kuepper and Alessandro Benedetti made six saves and five saves, respectively.
