MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2020) – Senior Ellie Cachiaras and freshman Victor Castel have been named Appalachian Athletic Conference offensive players of the week for the Milligan University soccer teams, announced the league office Monday afternoon. The awards were for the week ending Oct. 4.
Cachiaras, a first-time winner in her career, won the award after scoring five goals this week, including four in the senior-day win Saturday against Columbia. Castel, now a two-time winner in his first collegiate season, won after scoring in both matches of the week. For Castel, this included scoring the match-winning goal as Milligan capped a furious second-half comeback Saturday against Point.
Cachiaras' four goals Saturday helped the Buffs pull away with their fourth straight win, defeating Columbia 4-1. She got the scoring going right away, as fellow senior Madison Hodges made a crossing pass that found Cachiaras open for a two-touch finish to put Milligan ahead 1-0 in just the first minute. Cachiaras followed with goals in the 36th, 49th and 68th minutes to round out her successful day.
On the men's side, the Buffs trailed Point Saturday 2-0 in the second half before goals by Charlie Betts and Andre Levarity tied the game back up inside the final 23 minutes. Castel followed with the biggest goal of them all in the 80th minute, putting Milligan into a lead it would not relinquish.
Up next for the Buffs, the women travel to Brenau Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. match. The next game for the men is set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. when the Buffs travel to Bluefield.
