MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2020) – Charlie Betts cut the two-goal deficit in half, Andre Levarity equalized, and Victor Castel scored the match winner, as the Milligan University men's soccer team roared back from a 2-0 second-half disadvantage to win 3-2 Saturday on Anglin Field.
The win, a senior day win, helped Milligan stay perfect at 3-0 on the season.
The comeback
Castel's winning goal came in the 80th minute when a sequence of passes from Levarity and Odin Solheim found the freshman forward open near the top of the penalty area. Castel buried it into the back of the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Betts and Levarity scored each of their goals in a span of 25 minutes prior to Castel's. After Point went in front 2-0, Betts scored the first goal of his career in the 57th minute with a flick off the back of his foot following a corner kick by Inaki Moreno. Levarity made it a tie game 11 minutes later after a pass from Raphael Sefriou found him open along the right side.
Levarity's goal was the first of the season and fourth of his Milligan career.
The numbers
The Buffaloes dominated much of the possession throughout the match, resulting in nearly all the chances going their way. They led the shot count 10-2 at the break, including 4-1 on shots on goal, but Point converted its one good chance into a goal.
That got worse for Milligan in the second half as the Skyhawks once again scored a goal on their first opportunity. Betts' goal followed six minutes later to spark the Buffs' rally.
In all, Milligan outshot Point 24-5, including 14-3 on shots on goal. The Buffaloes also tallied a 12-3 advantage on corner kicks.
