JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 30, 2020) – Alex Frances put the Milligan University men's soccer team on top in just the 14th minute and the Buffaloes never looked back, winning 5-0 against visiting Kentucky Christian Wednesday night at Kermit Tipton Stadium.
Frances' goal highlighted a dominating match for Milligan. Inaki Moreno and Charlie Betts provided the assists on a long ball from midfield by Betts followed shortly by a pass across the middle from Moreno. Frances scored with one touch from his right foot to give the Buffs the early lead.
Milligan scored a second time in the first half when Raphael Sefriou converted a penalty kick following a handball in the box from KCU. Sefriou, in fact, nearly scored 30 seconds before on a corner kick that required an agile save as time wound down in the opening half. The save warranted another corner kick, which Simen Haraldstad placed in the center of the penalty area, resulting in the handball with 5.9 seconds left.
Victor Castel, Haraldstad and Jett Carter rounded out Milligan's scoring with goals in the second half. Castel scored to make it 3-0 on a direct free kick in the 53rd minute. Haraldstad scored on a header with an assist from Castel in the 74th minute. Then, Carter finished things off with a goal from the right side in the 87th minute, with an assist from Sefriou.
Milligan outshot Kentucky Christian 21-5, including 14-2 in shots on goals. Milligan goalkeeper Jared Whittenbarger made two saves.
Up next, Milligan hosts Point Saturday at 1 p.m. in a makeup from the previously scheduled Appalachian Athletic Conference game. The buffs also will be home the following Saturday, Oct. 10, against Reinhardt.
