MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2019) – Roberto Fernandez Garrido and the Milligan College men's soccer team played a resilient start to the second half but in the end lost to Bryan College, 6-2, Saturday on Anglin Field. Trailing 3-0 at the break, Milligan cut it to 3-2 early in the second half before surrendering three more goals by the end of the match.
Prior to the match, Milligan honored Joel Dominguez, Garrido, Isiah Goddard-Joseph and Garrett Wertz as part of senior day.
The goals were Garrido's NAIA-leading 24th and 25th of the season. The first came after Garrido drew a foul in the penalty area and converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute. Approximately five minutes later, Garrido made it a one-goal match, finding the back of the net after slipping through Bryan's defense with an assist from Inaki Moreno.
Milligan had all the chances during the next few minutes, including a miss high by Garrido followed shortly by a narrow miss wide by Dominguez.
Milligan was outshot by Bryan 21-9, 13-5 on shots on goal. Garrido and Luke Bennett both tallied two shots on goal while Jan Kuepper made seven saves.
With the regular season finished, Milligan will next be in action in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, scheduled to begin Saturday, Nov. 2. The Buffs are locked into the seven seed and will travel to Bryan looking for redemption in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
