BECKLEY, W.Va. (Oct. 19, 2019) – After keeping it a one-goal match against one of the top teams in the country for 68 minutes, the Milligan College men's soccer team surrendered a pair of late goals and lost 3-0 to No. 18 WVU Tech Saturday on the road.
The loss was only Milligan's second defeat in October and dropped the Buffs to 5-9 this season.
WVU Tech, undefeated this season and fresh off a win over No. 10 Rio Grande its last time out, opened up the scoring Saturday in the 18th minute on a goal by Allan Costa. It proved to be all the scoring WVU Tech needed, although they added a pair of goals late in the match to widen the margin. The first of the pair scored late came in the 69th minute, and the second was scored less than five minutes later in the 73rd minute.
Milligan took 10 shots in the match, compared to WVU Tech's 11, but the Buffs earned more shots on target, posting five to WVU Tech's four. Odin Solheim accounted for two of Milligan's five shots on target, while Roberto Fernandez Garrido, Inaki Moreno and Raphael Sefriou accounted for the others.
Up next, Milligan plays two more times this season, once on the road and once at home. The road match will be played at Kentucky Christian University Wednesday, followed by the home match against Bryan next Saturday during homecoming weekend.
