COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 16, 2019) – A three-game winning streak and two-game shutout streak came to a close for the Milligan College men's soccer team Wednesday as the Buffaloes surrendered a goal in the final minute and lost 1-0 at Columbia International University.
The loss marked Milligan's first of October and represented only the second time the Buffaloes have been shut out in the 2019 season. It also was their fifth loss of the season determined by a single goal.
Milligan and CIU played a close match, although the host Rams tallied a wide margin in shots at 14-7, including 8-3 on shots on frame. Harry Griffin accounted for two of Milligan's shots on frame, while Roberto Fernandez Garrido had the other.
CIU scored the lone goal of the match inside of one minute to go in regulation on a shot by Marcos Da Paz, the Appalachian Athletic Conference's second-leading goal scorer behind Garrido. It was the 17th goal of the season for Da Paz, one behind Garrido who ranks No. 2 in the NAIA in scoring with 18 goals this season.
Up next, Milligan hits the road for two games before returning home for one final home game. The road games will be played at WVU Tech Oct. 19 and Kentucky Christian Oct. 23. Senior day will take place Saturday, Oct. 26, as the Buffs welcome Bryan College for the regular season finale during homecoming weekend.
