MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 14, 2019) – Roberto Fernandez Garrido and Jan Kuepper helped Milligan College sweep the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer weekly award while Ashlen Burch of the Milligan women's soccer team and Kellee Geren of the volleyball team also were recognized. The awards were announced Monday by the AAC office for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 13.
Garrido won the award for the fifth time in his career, fourth time this season. Kuepper won the award for the first time in his career. Burch won for the second time in her career and first time this season. Geren became an 18-time setter of the week winner, winning the award for the fifth time this season.
Garrido posted a hat trick before tallying a goal and an assist in two AAC wins this week. It brought his season total to 18 goals, which leads the league and ranks No. 2 in the NAIA. Garrido now has five multigoal games this season and has scored a hat trick three times.
Garrido's four goals on the week helped Milligan win its third straight game and post its second straight clean sheet.
Kuepper spent all 180 minutes tending goal this week and was responsible for both clean sheets. He made seven saves to bring his season total up to 26, and he has a 3-3 overall record on the season. Kuepper saved one of his finest efforts for the end of Milligan's last game, denying a would-be goal on a Bluefield free kick late in the match, which preserved the team's second straight shutout.
Ashlen Burch
Burch had a breakout match early in the week with a career high four-goal effort. A scorer of seven goals in 2018, Burch tallied the third multigoal match of her career with over half as many goals she scored last season. Burch followed the effort with another goal in the second of Milligan's two wins during the seven-day span.
Kellee Geren
Geren, the Milligan record holder for career assists, saw limited playtime Saturday in a decisive win against Brenau but still managed to average over 10 assists per set for the week, which led all conference setters. Geren posted back-to-back efforts of 35 assists in the first two matches of the week, then 33 in a four-setter Saturday morning.
