Buffs duo picks up AAC athlete of the week honor
Milligan College's Roberto Fernandez Garrido and Kellee Geren won Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for their respected sports this past week, announced the league office Monday afternoon.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2019) – Milligan College's Roberto Fernandez Garrido and Kellee Geren won Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for their respected sports this past week, announced the league office Monday afternoon.
This is Garrido's third time this season winning the offensive player of the week award. Garrido was a part of the 3-1 victory over No. 19 Tennessee Wesleyan this past week. He scored two goals in the game, the first from a penalty kick that gave Milligan the lead, and the second goal came late in the second half to give the Buffs some cushion. Garrido scored his Appalachian Athletic Conference-leading 14th goal of the season along with his fourth multigoal match of the season against Wesleyan.
Geren was awarded her fourth setter of the week award this season, making it her 17th time receiving this honor during her collegiate career. Geren recorded a total of 98 assists on the week, averaging out to 10.98 a set. Along with her assists, she had 28 digs, eight kills, and three aces. Geren leads the conference with 827 total assists on the season and averaging out to 9.6 a set.
Geren and the Milligan volleyball team will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Kentucky Christian, and Garrido and the Milligan men's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at home against St. Andrews.
