Milligan blanks Midway in season opener
The Milligan College men’s soccer team came out hot Friday night for their season opening match against Midway University, defeating them 9-0 at Anglin Field.

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Aug. 30, 2019) – The Milligan College men's soccer team came out hot Friday night for their season opening match against Midway University, defeating them 9-0 at Anglin Field.
Milligan's explosive first half
Milligan worked quick, with their first goal coming after three minutes of play from Isiah Goddard-Joseph. The Buffs quickly tacked on five more goals in the first half making the score 6-0 going into the second half.
Roberto Fernandez Garrido scored four goals on 12 shots on the night, and all four goals came in the first half. After tonight's game Fernandez Garrido already has nearly a third of the goals that he scored last season (13).
Luke Bennett was the other multiple scoring player for Milligan as he scored one goal in the first half, and added on the last goal of the game in the second half. Milligan outshot Midway 23-0 in the first half.
Second half leaders
In the 54th minute Inaki Moreno scored the first goal for the Buffs in the second half, and Joel Dominguez followed in suit scoring another goal six minutes after him. The Buffs outshot Midway 8-2 in the second half.
Milligan controlled the pace of the game during the entire match, only allowing Midway one shot on the goal, which came in the second half. This was the first time that Milligan had scored more than five goals in one half since 2015.

Milligan will be in action on the road for the next two games on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Tusculum and on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Dalton State. The Buffs next home match will be on Tuesday, Sept. 10, against Cumberland University.
