de Bethencourt Places Third as Buffs Men’s Golf Takes Fifth at Fincastle Intercollegiate
BLUEFIELD, Va. - On Monday and Tuesday, the Milligan University men's golf squad was in action for the first time this fall. After their weekend event in London, Ky. was canceled, the team headed to the Fincastle Intercolllegiate at Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, Va., where they managed a fifth-place finish out of 12 attending programs.
The Buffs' top finisher was Francisco de Bethencourt, who shot an even-par score of 140 shots over the two-round event. With his efforts, he reached a third-place finish as an individual out of a field of 66 players.
After a round of 77 shots on day one, Gustaf Lundberg managed an even-par round of 70 strokes in round two to make his way into the top 10 for the Buffaloes, helping their cause as a squad.
Overall, the Milligan men had the lowest score out of all 12 teams on day two, including Manuel Gutierrez's 74 shots and Hugo Lundberg's 75. The team took 289 strokes on day two to jump from sixth to fifth as a team.
Next on the docket for the Buffs is the home tournament of the fall, the East Tennessee Collegiate, held on Sept. 23-24 at Johnson City Country Club.
