Men’s Golf sets 54-hole record at Phoenix Invitational
MT. JULIET, Tenn. (September 12, 2023) – The Milligan University men’s golf team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a record-setting effort at the Phoenix Invitational at the Pine Creek Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
MT. JULIET, Tenn. (September 12, 2023) – The Milligan University men's golf team opened its 2023-24 campaign with a record-setting effort at the Phoenix Invitational at the Pine Creek Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Buffs set the program's 54-hole team record with a (-7) 857. Milligan opened the tournament with an even-par 288 and followed it with rounds of (-3) 285 and (-4) 284 to finish sixth of 11 teams in the event. No. 3 Lindsey Wilson took home the tournament title by finishing 50 strokes under par.
Ty Beasley set Milligan's 54-hole individual tournament record with a (-9) 207 to finish 11th. Beasley shot a 69 in the opening round, a 68 in round two and finished the tournament with a two-under 70 on Tuesday. Beasley record 36 pars, 13 birdies and an eagle.
Francisco de Bethencourt Duque shot a team-low 67 with five birdies and an eagle in Monday's second round. He led the Buffs in pars (36) and eagles (two) at the event on his way to a tie for 24th.
Gustaf Lundberg shot 73 in the first and third rounds and Jakob Modig shot a 72 in the opening round. Both returners tied for 42nd at 222 strokes.
Hugo Lundberg saved his best for last with a (-4) 68 on Tuesday. He tied for 53rd.
The Buffs return to action at the East Tennessee Collegiate in two weeks at the Johnson City Country Club.
