Men’s Golf sets single-round and 36-hole tournament records at Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (April 11, 2023) – The Milligan University men’s golf team set single-round and 36-hole tournament records as the Buffs finished as the team runner-up at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout at the Elizabethton Golf Course on Tuesday.
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (April 11, 2023) – The Milligan University men's golf team set single-round and 36-hole tournament records as the Buffs finished as the team runner-up at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout at the Elizabethton Golf Course on Tuesday.
Both rounds of the tournament were played on Tuesday. The Buffs finished 16 strokes under par with a two-round total of 560. After shooting (-5) 283 in the first round, Milligan set its single-round record with an 11-under 277 as all five players finished even-par or better with four finishing under par for the round. Roane State took the team title with a minus-21 555. Northwestern Ohio's Noah Honinger took medalist honors with an 11-under 133 (64-69).
Ty Beasley posted the second-lowest two-round tournament total in Milligan golf history as he fired a 67 in round one and a 68 in round two to finish nine-under and earn second place with 135 strokes.
Jonathan Liggett joined Beasley on the all-tournament team as he finished six strokes under par. After starting the day three over par in the first five holes, Liggett notched seven birdies in round one on his way to a two-under 70. In round two, Ligget went four under par on the back nine to score a 68 and finish tied for fifth.
Brandon Hammond had his best day as Buffs with back-to-back rounds of two-under 70. Gustaf Lundberg tied for 18th in the 64-man field with a score of 148 (76-72). Samuel Prater bounced back from a round one 78. After opening his second round with a triple bogey, Prater recorded a pair of eagles on his way to a one-under 71 to place 20th at 149 strokes.
Seth Bible fired 76 in both rounds on his way to a 26th-place showing. Nick Brock finished 28th with rounds of 78 and 75. Reece Anderson was 30th at 154 strokes (78-76).
The Buffs return to action in two weeks at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Spring Championship/NAIA Direct Qualifier.
