Men’s Golf finishes third at Midway Eagle Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 4, 2023) – The Milligan University men's golf team recorded a third-place finish in a 10-team field at the Midway Eagle Invitational at the University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course on Monday and Tuesday.

The tournament featured three teams that received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The Buffs were third behind (RV) Indiana Wesleyan and (RV) St. Thomas. IWU won the two-round event with 586 strokes. Milligan finished with 598 strokes, five shots back of second place.

Milligan sat in third after posting a 298 in round one. The Buffs had the fourth-best round two score of 300.

Gustaf Lundberg tied for seventh place in the 58-man field. He finished four over par for the tournament at 148 strokes after recording a 74 in both rounds. Jonathan Liggett finished a shot back to place 12th at 149 strokes with rounds of 73 and 76.

Samuel Prater and Ty Beasley tied for 16th at 152 strokes. Prater's best round came on Tuesday with a 75 while Beasley opened with a 74 on Monday.

Brandon Hammond (T-26, 154) rounded out Milligan's scoring five and his 75 on Tuesday counted toward the team total.

Milligan returns to action next week at the Buffs' home Mountain Empire Intercollegiate at the Elizabethton Golf Club next Tuesday.
