Men’s Golf shoots nine-under in final round of Coastal GA Fall Invite
WAVERLY, Ga. (September 13, 2022) – The Milligan University men’s golf team improved in all three of its rounds and fired a nine-under final round to finish tied for seventh among a loaded field at the Coastal Georgia Fall Men’s Invitational.

After the opening day of action, Milligan sat 12th of 16 teams in the tournament. The Buffs opened the season with a 304 and followed with an even-par 288 in Monday's second round. On Tuesday, three players shot under par as the Buffs posted a 279 to shoot up the team standings. Milligan's round tied for the second-lowest for any team at the tournament.
The event featured five ranked teams and an additional five teams that received votes in the NAIA men's golf preseason top 25 rankings. The Buffs were one of the five teams that received votes in the top 25. No. 12 Southeastern took the tournament title at 17-under (846). The Buffs finished tied with (RV) St. Thomas and ahead of the other three teams that were receiving votes in the top 25.
Jonathan Liggett led the charge with a five-under 67 on Tuesday, tying for the lowest round of the tournament. He played bogey-free golf in his final round with five birdies. Liggett rocketed up the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 26th at 217 strokes, a jump of 31 spots.
Samuel Prater matched Liggett in 26th with a three-round score of 217. Prater carded back-to-back 70s in the second and third rounds. On Tuesday he also went without a bogey and picked up birdies on the second and 17th holes.
Gustaf Lundberg also saved his best for last as he posted a 69 on Tuesday to rise 18 spots on the leaderboard and finish 39th overall at 219 strokes.
Jakob Modig settled in with rounds of 72 and 73 to close his first tournament with the Buffs at 222 strokes, good for 49th. Ty Beasley rounded out Milligan's five with a 225, tied for 55th.
Milligan returns to action Sept. 26-27 at the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club.
