Men’s Golf finishes as runner-up at AAC Spring Championship/NAIA Direct Qualifier
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (April 26, 2022) – The Milligan University men’s golf earned a runner-up team finish at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Spring Championship and NAIA Direct Qualifier at the Barnsley Gardens Resort on Tuesday.
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (April 26, 2022) – The Milligan University men's golf earned a runner-up team finish at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Spring Championship and NAIA Direct Qualifier at the Barnsley Gardens Resort on Tuesday.
Despite playing through pouring rain for the duration of the third round, Buffs posted the third-best third Tuesday score of 312 to finish at 923 strokes to tie with (RV) Truett McConnell for second place in the team standings. The Buffs earned the second-place trophy by virtue of its fifth player's score besting Truett McConnell's No. 5 scorer on Tuesday.
Through 36 holes, the Buffs were in fourth place, but Tuesday round jumped Milligan five strokes ahead of No. 19 Tennessee Wesleyan and 11 strokes above No. 10 Point. No. 15 Reinhardt took the AAC's spring title and direct bid to the NAIA National Championships in May with 904 strokes.
The Buffs had three individuals finish in the top 10 of the 65-player field.
Alvaro Huidobro used a round three 75, one of the three lowest rounds of the day, to jump into the top five as he finished with 227 strokes (75-77-75) to tie for fourth place.
Samuel Prater rose four spots to tie for sixth after a round three 76. He totaled 228 strokes (75-77-76) for the championship event. Dane Rheinecker finished 10th at 231 strokes (75-76-80).
Ty Beasley tied for 28th at 240 strokes and Jonathan Liggett tied for 32nd at 241 strokes.
The AAC also handed out all-conference awards for the 2021-22 season at the conclusion of the event. Rheinecker earned All-AAC First Team status while Huidobro and Prater were named All-AAC Second Team.
