Men’s Golf opens season with impressive showing at Fincastle
BLUEFIELD, Va. (September 14, 2021) – The Milligan University men’s golf team opened its 2021-22 season with an impressive second place showing at the Fincastle Collegiate, hosted by Bluefield on Monday and Tuesday.
BLUEFIELD, Va. (September 14, 2021) – The Milligan University men's golf team opened its 2021-22 season with an impressive second place showing at the Fincastle Collegiate, hosted by Bluefield on Monday and Tuesday.
The Buffs were tied for the lead after day one at Fincastle with a team score of 299 on Monday. On Tuesday, Milligan improved its score by 10 shots with a 289, the Buffs' lowest single-round score since October 2019. Milligan's tournament score of 588 was its lowest 36-hole total since September 2018.
The Buffs finished second to host Bluefield, who recorded a team total of 286 on the second day of the event to win by three strokes.
Jonathan Liggett collected four birdies on his way to an even-par 70 in round two. His two-day total of 143 tied for second overall in the 34-golfer field.
Ty Beasley shot a bogey-free minus-two 33 on the front nine to set up an even-par 70 of his own. Beasley joined Leggett in the top five as he finished in a four-way tie for fifth at 149 strokes.
Samuel Prater and Dane Rheinecker tied for ninth at 151 strokes. Both played improved upon their day one scores as Prater fired a 74 and Rheinecker carded a 75. Alvaro Huidobro placed 13th with a score of 154.
All five Milligan players turned in a round of 75 or better in the Buffs' opening event.
The Buffs return to action Sept. 27-28 when they host the East Tennessee Collegiate at the Johnson City Country Club.
