CHUCKEY, Tenn. (March 23, 2021) – A strong opening day helped the Milligan University men's golf team finish high on the leaderboard at the Agnes McAmis Memorial Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Graysburg Hills Golf Club. Milligan finished behind two NCAA Division II schools, including host Tusculum.
Carter Counts, competing as an individual, led the Buffs with rounds of 81 and 69, the latter the low for day two and three strokes under par. His fourth-place finish helped him land a spot on the all-tournament team.
Brandon Mathis (78-76/12th) and Jonathan Liggett (73-83/15th) followed with spots in the top 15, and Dane Rheinecker (75-84/20th) and Samuel Prater (81-79/23rd) finished in the top 25.
Milligan scored a 307 on day one and followed that up with a 322 on day two. It marked the Buffs' highest finish of the 2020-21 season and their best since opening the fall campaign with a fourth-place finish.
Up next, Milligan hosts a dual match against Walters State on Thursday, April 1, before hosting the Mountain Empire Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, April 12-13. Both events will take place at Elizabethton Golf Club.
