Buffs open spring at rain-shortened Cherokee Valley Invite
Jonathan Liggett and Brandon Hammond earned spots in the top 25 to lead the Milligan University men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Cherokee Valley Invitational Monday at Cherokee Valley Golf and Country Club. Teams were originally scheduled to play a second round on Tuesday, but rainy weather forced the event to be called after day one.
TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (March 16, 2021) – Jonathan Liggett and Brandon Hammond earned spots in the top 25 to lead the Milligan University men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Cherokee Valley Invitational Monday at Cherokee Valley Golf and Country Club. Teams were originally scheduled to play a second round on Tuesday, but rainy weather forced the event to be called after day one.
Liggett and Hammond fired rounds of 76 and 77, respectively, to finish 20th and 22nd. Brandon Mathis and Dane Rheinecker followed closely with scores of 78 and 79.
The results tallied a 310 for Milligan's team score, which landed the Buffs eighth in the deep NCAA Division II field.
Up next, Milligan competes at the Agnes McAmis Memorial Invitational, hosted by Tusculum, in Chuckey, Tennessee, next Monday-Tuesday, March 22-23. The Buffs have a couple of home events coming up during the first two weeks of April.
