Men’s golf takes seventh at AAC Fall Championship
With Dane Rheinecker out front, the Milligan University men’s golf team claimed seventh place at the 2020 Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship, held Monday and Tuesday at Barnsley Gardens Resort. The field featured several NAIA top-25 teams, including two top-five teams.
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 13, 2020) – With Dane Rheinecker out front, the Milligan University men's golf team claimed seventh place at the 2020 Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship, held Monday and Tuesday at Barnsley Gardens Resort. The field featured several NAIA top-25 teams, including two top-five teams.
Rheinecker took 22nd in the field of over 80 individuals, carding rounds of 73, 75 and 80. He ended 12 strokes out of the top five for all-tournament honors and was followed by Jonathan Liggett and Caleb Milligan, who earned spots in the top 50.
Milligan opened the tournament with a 310 which had the Buffs in fifth place in the field of 12 AAC teams before following with scores of 317 over rounds two and three.
No. 3 Point (279-284-289) won the tournament with a final score that was 12 strokes under par. The Skyhawks also had the top two individuals, with Ruan Pretorius (69-66-72) earning individual medalist honors. He had a five-stroke advantage over the rest of the field.
Milligan next will close out the fall portion of its 2020-21 season with a trip to St. Simons Island, Georgia, for the Sea Island Intercollegiate, hosted by Coastal Georgia. The event is set to take place Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 26-27, at Sea Palms Resort.
