Men’s golf squad posts another solid season
The Milligan College men’s golf team, a young squad with only one senior, posted another solid season despite the spring season being cut short. Highlights included an impressive third-place finish at the East Tennessee Collegiate and a fourth-place finish at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational.
The Milligan College men's golf team, a young squad with only one senior, posted another solid season despite the spring season being cut short. Highlights included an impressive third-place finish at the East Tennessee Collegiate and a fourth-place finish at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational. The Buffs finished sixth of 13 at the AAC Fall Preview at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Georgia. The Buffs showed their potential this season with an impressive 1 over par team score of 289 in the second round of the East Tennessee Collegiate.
Individually, Dane Rheinecker, a junior from Knoxville, Tennessee, led the way for the Buffs. Rheinecker had multiple rounds under par as well as par and +1 and +2 rounds.
Rheinecker is ranked No. 36 among all AAC golfers in scoring average. He posted three top 16 or better finishes, including sixth place at the East Tennessee Collegiate, sixth at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational, and 16th at the Bojangles Intercollegiate. Freshman Nick Brock, from Gray, Tennessee, was second on the team in scoring average. Brock's best finish was a 15 of 42 at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational. Senior Caleb Milligan was third in scoring. Milligan posted an impressive 2 under par 70 in the second round of the East Tennessee Collegiate, finishing 11th. Reece Walker, a sophomore from Knoxville, Tennessee, was fourth in scoring and had a solid 18 of 42 finish at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational. Freshman Sam Prater, from Manchester, Tennessee, rounded out the top five in scoring for the Buffs. Prater had a top 25 finish at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational.
Other outstanding performers were David Lang, a junior from Saltzburg, Austria, who posted an impressive 2 under par 70 at the East Tennessee Collegiate, finishing tied for 11th; Jonathan Liggett, a sophomore from Tullahoma, Tennessee, finished 12th at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational and tied for 24th at the Bojangles Intercollegiate; Brandon Hammond, a sophomore from Epsom, England, showed outstanding promise with a tied for 21st finish at the Stonecrest/Southeast Kentucky Invitational; and Ethan Mays, a sophomore from Bluff City, Tennessee. Mays, despite battling illness throughout most of the season, was still able to qualify for two tournaments. The future is promising for the Buffs.
The Buffs will open the 2020-21 fall season in Pinehurst, North Carolina, at the Pinehurst Men's Intercollegiate Invitational on Pinehurst #6 August 30-September 1, 2020.
