No. 5 Buffs Men's Bowling Soars at Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – On Wednesday and Thursday, the Milligan University men's bowling squad competed at the Tier 1 Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. It was an impressive performance by the team, as they posted a program record of 1,227 pins in a single team game, while finishing third/fourth out of a 55-team field.
Over the course of two days, the squads played eight team games, with five occurring on Wednesday and three on Thursday. They then finished the event with match play, where they eventually ended their run in the semifinals. Milligan had a 8,461-pin total in their team games, averaging 1,057.6 per game as the second NAIA finisher at the event.
Nate Trentler posted an eighth-place finish as an individual, having scored a 289 in his first team game with 10 straight strikes to start his event. He ended up with 1,750 pins and a 218.8 pins-per-game average.
Bryant Griffith's 25th-place individual finish consisted of a high game of 268 in his first team game, while he also posted a 267 in his sixth team game. He averaged 209.8 pins across eight team games and managed to down a total of 1,678 pins.
Milligan's five-bowler squad that set a new program best 1,227 pins in the first team game was made up of Trentler, Griffith, Xander Stephens, Alex Evans and Joshua Collins.
To conclude the event, the Buffs took part in bracket match play, where they began with a 3.5-2.5 win over Grand Canyon University and defeated Davenport 3-0 before falling to Webber International in the Semifinal round 1-3 to finish in the 3rd/4th position.
Next up is another Las Vegas-based event, the Tier 1 Collegiate Shoot-out, which will occur on Friday and Saturday.
