ALLENTOWN, Pa. (December 19, 2023) – The Milligan University men's bowling team notched its top finish at a Tier 1 tournament as the Buffs finished fourth at the Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic at Haja Rose Bowl in Pennsylvania on Monday and Tuesday.
The tournament field featured eight teams with a United States Bowling Congress ranking inside the top 25 across of college bowling. The format included five team games on Monday with 20 baker games on Tuesday. The Buffs totaled 9,161 pins to finish fourth overall, 204 pins behind tournament champion the University of Northwestern Ohio.
"We went in with high expectations looking for our program's first Tier 1 victory and put together a strong showing," said assistant coach Jeff Herman. "The players got a better feel for each other's strengths and we will feed off that at our next event. I believe we are very close to putting it all together walking into the winner's circle."
Bryant Griffith led the way for the Buffs on Monday by claiming all-tournament honors with a third-place individual finish. He exceeded 200 pins in all five of his games on his way to a total of 1,136 pins (227.2 average) with a high game of 248 in his finale.
Nate Trentler logged a top-25 showing as he placed 22nd with 1,020 pins (204.0 average). He exceeded 200 pins three times with a pair of games in the 220s. Alex Evans used a three-game 200-plus stretch to finish 30th at 993 pins (198.6 average).
Jackson McRae averaged 202.0 pins through four games with highs of 225 and 222. Cameron Shockey averaged 199.7 pins in three games with a high game of 235.
In Tuesday's baker games, Milligan totaled 4,087 pins (204.35 average) to secure a fourth-place finish and finish ahead of a slew of top-25 teams.
"It was a true team effort with Bryant Griffith crushing it from the left side, Alex Evans being lights out during Baker play leading us to a program high four-game block of 909. Nate Trentler provided leadership and a competitive spark to rally us when we struggled."
Milligan returns to action tomorrow with another Tier 1 event in PA, the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic.
