LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (January 29, 2023) – The Milligan University bowling team finished ninth of 12 teams in the varsity standings at the SCAD Baker Bash but the Buffs' JV squad took the junior varsity title on Sunday.
After 36 baker games, Milligan's varsity just missed the cut for match play with a ninth-place team finish. Milligan cleared 6,276 pins (174.33 average) in varsity baker action.
"I'm extremely proud of our guys this weekend as they battled through an extremely tough oil pattern," said head coach Brian Rickert. "Scores were very low this weekend and it was easy to get frustrated."
The Buffs' JV team finished second of four teams with a total score of 5,885 pins (163.47 average). The Buffs took on Central Florida in JV match play and took a 3-2 victory after falling behind 2-1. In the final, Milligan took on top-seeded Emmanuel and swept to a 3-0 victory with scores of 196, 199 and 211 to clinch the JV title.
"Going into match play, the JV huddled together and made sure they focused on making their spares to put the pressure on the other team," said Rickert. "We knew strikes were going to be hard to come by and that's exactly how things played out. After squeaking past a tough University of Central Florida squad in the first round, the guys just made spare after spare and Emmanuel just couldn't knock them off their game. It was fun to bring home the first win in JV program history!"
The Buffs are idle for the next two weeks before heading to the Tier 1 Hoosier Classic Feb. 18-19 in Indianapolis.
