ADDISON, Ill. (January 16, 2022) – The Milligan University men's bowling team competed alongside nearly 70 collegiate teams at the 2022 Kegel/ISBPA Collegiate Classic over the weekend.
The weekend marked Milligan's largest event of its inaugural season of competition. A total of 68 varsity teams and over 400 bowlers competed in the Tier 1 event.
Christian Brown used a pair of 200 games to pace the Buffs with 931 pins (186.2 average) during individual play. He posted a 225 in his fourth game and closed out individual play with a 204.
Cooper Brackins joined Brown as a top-half finisher in overall field with a five-game score of 887 pins in individual play. He logged an average of 177.4 pins and logged a 215 in his opening game. Tristain Crawford (878 pins) and Jameson Whaley (877) pins followed close behind. Craford notched a team high 235 in his first game of the day.
Milligan totaled 4,270 pins in individual play on Saturday. In 20 baker games on Sunday, the Buffs racked up 3,579 pins to total 7,849 for the weekend, good for 67th. Milligan went over 200 pins in six baker games with a high of 218 in the penultimate game.
"This whole season has been focused on getting better every day to trust the process of working hard & giving 100 percent," said head coach Brian Rickert. "Over the holiday break, the guys worked hard on their own and it showed with us rolling our second highest event total of the year. I was proud of each of the guys because 'give up' isn't in their vocabulary and they persevere through each and every shot. Matthew Richards is our lead-off guy in bakers and put together his best streak of any tournament this year making a strike or spare in almost 80 percent of his frames. You could feel the energy that it brought the rest of the team. Christian Brown started slow on Saturday but was able to make the adjustments needed to finish with back to back 200 games. This year has established the culture of 'process over results' that will lead this group into the upcoming seasons. I'm very excited to see where this takes us next year."
Men's bowling heads to Cincinnati next weekend for the Mid-South Conference's Cincinnati Collegiate Classic.
