Buffs Men’s Basketball Scores 100 Points in Decisive Home Triumph over TWU
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Wednesday evening, the Milligan University men's basketball squad concluded their 2024-25 regular season with their first 100-point offensive output of the year in a 102-73 win over Tennessee Wesleyan University.
Milligan controlled play from the very start of the contest, as the first half included a 28-9 lead for the Buffaloes after 12:12 had elapsed from the clock. The Buffaloes would enter the locker room with a 49-26 advantage, having held TWU to just 10-of-28 from the field. Milligan was only 11-of-30, but they made 23 free throws in just the first 20 minutes.
A much more efficient second half from the MU offense (15-of-27 FG, 18-of-19 FT) led to a high-scoring second half, as the Buffs held a 53-47 edge over the course of the period. That would lead to a 102-73 final tally, as the Buffaloes cruised in their regular-season finale.
Milligan had six scorers in double figures, as McCaskill Rivers led the charge with a 6-of-10 line for 20 points. He also sunk 7-of-8 at the free-throw line. Sam Gold's 18-point, 5-of-8 night included three long balls and 5-of-7 at the charity stripe. Luke Lentz had 12 points and went 4-of-7 from distance. Finn McClure, Elijah Bredwood and Handje Tamba each added 10 points.
McClure's four assists on Senior Night equaled the team's top single output. Bredwood dished out three, while Flynn Carlson had two. Rivers, Lentz, Piripi Lorent, Lincoln Thomae and Jayme Peay all had one.
Peay had an outstanding night cleaning the glass, as he hauled in 17 rebounds, coming up just two points shy of a double-double. McClure had the next-highest total with eight, while Gold and Tamba each provided seven. Rivers collected four, as Bredwood, Carlson and Thomae all had three. Korent grabbed two to round out the list.
On defense, Peay had two rejections and a steal in the victory. McClure and Rivers supplied two steals each, while Gold and Carlson both had two blocks. Bredwood had one of each, and Tamba added a block of his own.
Milligan will now wait on the conclusion of the remainder of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) teams' slates in order to learn their seeding for the AAC Men's Basketball Tournament, set to be hosted Feb. 26-Mar. 1 at the MeadowView Marriott in Kingsport.
