Men’s Basketball defeated at Union
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (January 20, 2024) – The Milligan University men's basketball team hung with Union over the first 10 minutes but could not keep up as the Bulldogs handed the Buffs a 101-78 defeat in Kentucky on Saturday.
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (January 20, 2024) – The Milligan University men's basketball team hung with Union over the first 10 minutes but could not keep up as the Bulldogs handed the Buffs a 101-78 defeat in Kentucky on Saturday.
Milligan falls to 7-9 on the season and 7-7 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Union rises to 13-6, 12-3 AAC.
Flynn Carlson scored five points in the game's first four minutes to help the Buffs to an early 8-4 edge. The Bulldogs quickly battled back and the game was tied at 10, 12, 15 and 16. Union took an 18-16 lead midway through the first half and led the rest of the game. The Bulldogs used an 11-2 run to go ahead 27-18 with eight minutes left in the half.
Milligan cut a 13-point deficit to seven (40-33) on a Follie Bogan layup with just over two minutes left in the half but Union scored on five of its final six possessions of the period and led 50-36 at the half.
The Buffs were able to put together a second half push as Union extended its lead to 20 (61-41) less than four minutes into the period. Milligan's bench accounted for 28 of the Buffs' 42 second half points.
Bogan had 13 points and four rebounds. Jay Hickman made three three-pointers on his way to 12 points and three steals. Carlson and McCaskill Rivers each had 11 points.
Milligan finished plus-three in the turnover margin (15-12) and had a 14-9 edge in points off turnovers.
Milligan welcomes Reinhardt for a conference contest on Wednesday evening.
