Gold scores 18 in exhibition at Division I Mercer

Sam Gold scored 10 points in the first seven minutes of game action as the Buffs trailed by eight (22-14) at the first media timeout at 13:10.
The Buffs had a 7-2 run late in the first half with Sami Sanad converting a pair of free throws, Finn McClure converting a stepback jumper and Alex Chambers drilling a triple. The Bears led 66-38 at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead over the entire second half.
Gold led Milligan with 18 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the floor with a pair of treys. Julian Wilson added 10 points and Matthew Roberts chipped in seven points. Levontae Knox and McClure had four assists apiece. Gold, Wilson and Drew Greene tied for Milligan's game-high of four rebounds.
The Buffs totaled 32 bench points and attempted 21 free throws on the night compared to 17 foul shots by Mercer.
Milligan travels to another NCAA Division I opponent, Austin Peay, on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
