Buffs drop AAC opener on the road at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. (November 6, 2021) — The Milligan University men's basketball team was defeated by the Montreat Canvaliers 99-63 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
Milligan falls to a record of 0-2 (0-1 AAC) while Montreat moves to 1-0 (1-0 AAC) in their first game of the year.
For the first five minutes, the Buffs kept pace with the Cavaliers as they matched buckets knotting the game at 9. Montreat then proceeded to go on a 33-10 run with seven minutes to go in the first half before eventually taking a 68-32 lead into halftime.
Levontae Knox was the high-point scorer for the Buffs in the first half going 2-2 from the field as well as from the free throw line finishing with six points.
Adam Graham came away with a big second half but ultimately wasn't enough for the Buffs to mount a comeback effort. Graham scored 13 points in the second half alone finishing with 16 on the day to lead all Milligan scorers.
Despite out-rebounding the Cavaliers 50-49, the Buffs could not slow down the hot offensive shooting day for Montreat as they had four players finish with double digit points.
Milligan returns to action Tuesday evening for the home-opener against Johnson (Tenn.) at 7:30 PM.
