Hot start not enough in road loss
The Milligan University men’s basketball team started the game on a 13-2 run but ultimately fell to Columbia International 88-68 Saturday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference road game. Matt Cole led the Buffs with 15 points while adding five rebounds.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 13, 2021) – The Milligan University men's basketball team started the game on a 13-2 run but ultimately fell to Columbia International 88-68 Saturday in an Appalachian Athletic Conference road game. Matt Cole led the Buffs with 15 points while adding five rebounds.
Milligan went ahead by as many as 13 in the first 12 minutes and led by 13 with three minutes left in the first half, but a 10-0 run from the Rams to finish the half swung the momentum in a big way. Columbia International then came out of the break with a 5-0 run to take the lead, and after a few changing of hands over the next five minutes, the Rams finally pulled away with another 10-0 run midway through the second half.
A 17-5 run over the last six minutes would help seal the game.
After Cole, Josh Thomas and Finn McClure both scored nine, Trevor Hensley and Tyler Faulkenberry both scored eight, and Jeffrey Selden scored seven. Thomas gathered a team-high six rebounds.
Up next, Milligan heads to Bluefield on Monday for the road finale before returning home to face Montreat on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The AAC tournament is set to begin with play-in games on Saturday.
