WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 6, 2021) – After defeating Point by two in overtime in the teams' Appalachian Athletic Conference opener last November, the Milligan University men's basketball team suffered the same fate Saturday, falling in overtime to the No. 25 Skyhawks 84-82.
Milligan led by as many as 10 in the final six minutes and 74-70 with less than 30 seconds to go, but a basket from Point with 0.1 seconds left in regulation helped force overtime, where the Skyhawks outscored the Buffs 10-8.
David Tripp posted 25 points to lead Milligan (7-7, 7-6 AAC) with his 12th game this season scoring 17 points or more. Three other Buffs followed in double figures for scoring. Trevor Hensley and Tyler Faulkenberry each scored 13, and Finn McClure scored 10. McClure added a game high seven assists while Tripp was the team's leader in rebounding with five.
Tripp helped put the Buffs ahead in the overtime period with a layup near the 1:30 mark, but Point would finish the game on a 5-2 run.
Up next, Milligan takes on Truett McConnell twice next week, starting with a home game on Tuesday and followed by a road game on Thursday. Both games are set to tip at 7 p.m. Home games this season can be followed online via milliganbuffs.com.
