Milligan advances to semifinals with win over KCU
Nathan Hastings started the game off with 11 points in the first six minutes of play to help the Milligan College men’s basketball team to an 86-70 win over Kentucky Christian University in the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon in Kingsport.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2020) – Nathan Hastings started the game off with 11 points in the first six minutes of play to help the Milligan College men's basketball team to an 86-70 win over Kentucky Christian University in the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon in Kingsport.
With Thursday's win, the Buffs advance to the semifinal round on Friday to face AAC foe Montreat College.
Game flow
Milligan dominated majority of the first half, working their way out to an 11-point lead with less than 14 minutes of play left. Kentucky Christian worked their way back, going on a 15-4 run to tie the game up 22-22 with under six minutes left in the first half. Milligan was able to regain the lead and enter halftime with a 32-30 lead.
The Buffs and KCU were back and forth for the first six minutes of the second half before a 3-pointer by Bo Pless opened the game up and would send Milligan on a 19-2 run. A triple by Trevor Hensley during the run gave the Buffs a double-digit lead that they would keep for the rest of the game. Tyler Nichols would give Milligan their biggest lead of the night with a dunk two minutes left in the game to put the Buffs up by 18.
By the numbers
Four Buffs made it into double digit scoring led by Hastings with 21 followed by Desean Green and Nichols with 13 apiece and Jacob Cawood with 11. Green would add on 10 assists and seven rebounds and Mike Featherston would add on 10 rebounds.

Milligan will face Montreat College Friday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. in the semifinal round of the AAC tournament at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The Buffs split with the Cavs during the regular season, losing to them at home 90-87 in overtime, and beating them on the road, 91-79.
