Seniors highlight men’s basketball awards
Seniors Jacob Cawood, Mike Featherston and Desean Green highlighted the Appalachian Athletic Conference postseason awards for the Milligan College men’s basketball team. Cawood was named to the All-AAC first team, Featherston was named to the All-AAC defensive team and Green earned All-AAC second team, defensive team and was named Milligan’s champion of character.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2020) – Seniors Jacob Cawood, Mike Featherston and Desean Green highlighted the Appalachian Athletic Conference postseason awards for the Milligan College men's basketball team. Cawood was named to the All-AAC first team, Featherston was named to the All-AAC defensive team and Green earned All-AAC second team, defensive team and was named Milligan's champion of character.
Additionally, Green, Nathan Hastings, Sasha Kaiukov, Teve Mushayamunda, Tyler Nichols and Bo Pless were on the AAC Academic All-Conference team. Milligan, along with Reinhardt and Truett McConnell, had the most members named to the academic team with six from each team.
Cawood's regular season success
Cawood finished the regular season leading Milligan in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game and having 420 points during the regular season. Cawood achieved a career high of 29 points this year in Milligan's victory over Allen on Jan. 7. Cawood has reached double digit scoring in 20 of the 27 games that Milligan played during the regular season. In AAC rankings, Cawood is No. 8 in scoring per game and is No. 10 in scoring along with being No. 5 in free throw percentage with a .782.
Featherston's defensive efforts
Featherston finds himself back on the all-defensive team for a second year in a row with another exceptional defensive effort for the regular season. Featherston finished the regular season with 214 rebounds, averaging 7.4 per game and currently leads the team in blocks with 46, averaging 1.6 per game. For his offensive efforts he is second on the team in assists with 79 and is averaging 7.8 points per game. Featherson is ranked nationally in the NAIA at No. 20 in total blocks and No. 24 in blocks per game. He is third in the AAC in blocks and blocks per game.
Green's recognitions
Green's efforts during the regular season earned him a spot on both the second team and defensive all-AAC teams. Green had double digit scoring in nine of the last 12 regular season games and finished the regular season with an average of 11.0 points per game. He had seven games this season with double digit rebounding and has recorded four double doubles this season. Green averaged 7.7 rebounds per game and added 141 assists and 48 steals. He leads the team in rebounds, assists and steals. He is nationally ranked in five categories with his two highest rankings being No. 11 in total assists and No. 14 in assists per game.
Milligan prepares for AAC tourney
Milligan is now preparing for the AAC tournament which begins Thursday at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in nearby Kingsport. The Buffs will first face Kentucky Christian University in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
