Cawood and Featherston lead Buffs over Allen
Jacob Cawood scored a career high 29 points and Mike Featherston led the defensive front with eight defensive rebounds to help the Milligan College men’s basketball team defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference member Allen University 90-72 Tuesday night.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 7, 2020) – Jacob Cawood scored a career high 29 points and Mike Featherston led the defensive front with eight defensive rebounds to help the Milligan College men's basketball team defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference member Allen University 90-72 Tuesday night.
Featherston finished the night with nine rebounds total and twelve points, nearly clinching a double-double. He also had a game high of four blocks. Cawood went 5-for-6 in three pointers and was 9-for-11 overall in field goal attempts.
Game flow
The Buffs came out hot behind the three point arch tonight with Cawood scoring the first points of the game off of two triples. He was fouled on the second shot to send him to the foul line where he scored the extra point to help give the Buffs an early 7-0 lead.
Seven minutes into the game Nathan Hastings contributed with two back to back three-pointers to help put the Buffs ahead 21-9. Milligan continued their dominant run in the first half, increasing their lead by as many as 17 at one point. They outshot the Yellow Jackets 54.8% to 31.4%. At the break Cawood led with 14 points and Featherston had six total rebounds.
Milligan continued their dominance into the second half with an 8-0 run in the first four minutes of play. Cawood started the second half off in similar fashion as the first with an early three and Bo Pless followed behind him with a triple as well. Allen answered back however with a 13-3 run for themselves to make the score 59-53, Milligan.
This was the closest the Yellow Jackets would get to the Buffs during the second half as Milligan increased their lead with several three-point shots. Cawood ended Allen's run with his fifth three-pointer of the night right under 10 minutes left to play. Pless then answered again with a three-pointer almost 30 seconds later with Micah Paulk scoring a triple of his own 30 seconds after that. Pless would finish Milligan's 12-4 run with another three-pointer with a little over eight minutes left to play.
By the numbers
Milligan finished 46.9% behind the three-point line and shot 50.8% in total field goals. Pless joined Cawood and Featherston in double-digit scoring with 16 points. Four other Buffs made it into the scoring column and barely missed double-digit scoring. Trevor Hensley finished with nine points and added seven rebounds and Desean Green, Paulk and Hastings all finished with eight points. Green nearly clinched a double-double as well recording nine assists.

Milligan faces Truett McConnell on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game at 5:30 p.m. Milligan then hits the road for two away games before returning to Milligan for two home games later this month. They first stop at Johnson University on Monday, Jan. 13, for a non-conference matchup before traveling to Kentucky Christian University for an AAC matchup on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
