Hensley’s career day helps Milligan defeat Reinhardt
Two games back from injury and sophomore Trevor Hensley scored a career high of 17 points to help the Milligan College men’s basketball team defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference member Reinhardt University 69-63 Saturday afternoon in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 4, 2020) – Two games back from injury and sophomore Trevor Hensley scored a career high of 17 points to help the Milligan College men's basketball team defeat Appalachian Athletic Conference member Reinhardt University 69-63 Saturday afternoon in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Hensley went 3-for-3 in three point shots in the first half and finished the game 5-for-6 in three point shots. Overall he was 6-for-8 in field goal attempts.
Game flow
Jacob Cawood began Milligan's dominant first half run with a triple at the start of the game and Bo Pless followed behind him with a three pointer himself nearly 30 seconds later. Hensley connected his first three pointer of the night with 15 minutes left in the first half to give Milligan a double digit lead where they would stay for the rest of the first half. Pless and Cawood led the Buffs in the first half with Pless scoring 11 points and Cawood having seven rebounds.
In the second half Milligan continued to lead the entire half, increasing their lead by as much as 22 points with a field goal by Nathan Hastings with nine minutes left in the half. During that time Milligan went on an 11-0 run and did not allow the Eagles to score for over five minutes.
Reinhardt answered back with a 19-6 run to put the Eagles down by seven with less than two minutes left to play. The Buffs were able to hold onto their lead by going 5-for-8 from the free throw line in the last two minutes and only allowing the Eagles to score six more points.
By the numbers
Along with Hensley, three other Buffs made it into double digit scoring. Cawood finished with 14 points, Pless with 13 and Hastings with 10. Micah Paulk finished with nine points. Mike Featherston had a strong night on defense with six defensive rebounds and seven blocks. Featherston and Desean Green would finish the night with eight rebounds apiece.
