ATLANTA, Ga. (May 13, 2022) – The Milligan University women's flag football team concluded its 2022 season with a 49-7 defeat to the University of Saint Mary in the opening round of the Silver Bracket at the Home Depot Backyard outside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
After Saint Mary raced out to a 28-0 lead, a contested catch by Liz Burns kickstarted a Milligan drive that was followed up by back-to-back completions to Burns and Dani Bartocci to push the Buffs beyond midfield.
The Buffs capped the drive with their first touchdown in Atlanta as Brooke Housley connected with Mya Eury for a 25-yard touchdown pass. Milligan was successful on its point after attempt as Blakelee Ollis hauled in the conversion from Housley.
Late in the half, completions over the middle to Burns and up the right sideline to Katherine Allen put the Buffs into Spires territory, but the drive stalled before Milligan could reach the Saint Mary 20. The Spires carried a 42-7 lead into the halftime break.
The Spires scored the lone touchdown in the second half to earn a 49-7 victory.
Burns was the Buffs top pass-catcher on the day with at least six receptions.
