Hanson Becomes Second Former Milligan Cyclist to Reach Olympics
MILLIGAN, Tenn. - Milligan University Cycling alumna, Lauretta Hanson, will be competing as part of Australia's women's road cycling team on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. ET, to become the second former Buffs cyclist to reach the Olympic stage.
Among Hanson's accomplishments with the Buffs in the 2014-15 campaign, she had 15 conference event wins. Nationally, she finished second in the Criterium, second in the Road Race and second in the Individual Time Trials. She was also the first ever program national champion, as she took home the Women's Omnium title that season.
She was also a fierce competitor on the track. She came in second overall in Women's Omnium, second in Individual Pursuit, third in the Scratch Race, fourth in the Points Race, fifth in Time Trials and sixth in the Match Sprint.
Though Hanson was at Milligan for just one season, she credits the opportunity and her success for giving her the chance to be noticed by professional teams, eventually leading to her first pro contract.
Coverage of the race will occur on CNBC at 8 a.m. or can be streamed using the NBC Sports app.
