Megan Jastrab captures Road Race national championship at Collegiate Road Nationals
AUGUSTA, Ga. (May 7, 2022) – Megan Jastrab captured her fourth Collegiate Cycling national title as she won the Women’s Road Race on day two of USA Cycling’s Collegiate Road National Championships in Augusta.
AUGUSTA, Ga. (May 7, 2022) – Megan Jastrab captured her fourth Collegiate Cycling national title as she won the Women's Road Race on day two of USA Cycling's Collegiate Road National Championships in Augusta.
Jastrab topped the 42-rider field by completing approximately 60 miles in 3:08:11. She triumphed in a sprint to the finish line to earn her first individual road race national championship.
"She played the race flawlessly," said head coach Zack Nave. "She knew where she wanted to be, how she wanted to race the race and executed perfectly."
Marjie Bemis spent a good portion of the race in the lead group and finished sixth in 3:08:12 and Madeline Bemis placed 18th in 3:08:18.
Jastrab becomes the second student-athlete in school history to claim four national championships, joining Milligan track legend Hannah Segrave. She collected a pair of track cycling national titles in 2019 and has collected Women's Team Time Trial and Women's Road Race national titles in the 2022 road championships.
Isaac Bryant logged a podium appearance in the Men's Road Race as he navigated five laps in 2:49:08 to finish fifth. Bobby Comfort placed 21st in 2:49:49.
In the overall Team Omnium standings, Milligan sits in third place through the Team Time Trails and Road Race. The Buffs have 273 points through four events. Marian leads the team standings with 290 points.
Tomorrow road nationals conclude with the men's and women's criterium.
