Megan Jastrab and Brody McDonald grab silver medals; Buffs place fourth at Track Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 11, 2021) – Megan Jastrab posted a pair of silver medals and Brody McDonald added a runner-up showing of his own, and the Milligan University cycling team finished fourth overall as the USA Cycling Collegiate Track Nationals concluded on Saturday.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 11, 2021) – Megan Jastrab posted a pair of silver medals and Brody McDonald added a runner-up showing of his own, and the Milligan University cycling team finished fourth overall as the USA Cycling Collegiate Track Nationals concluded on Saturday.
Jastrab highlighted the morning session with a gutsy performance in the Women's 3k Individual Pursuit. Jastrab was one of two competitors to complete the nine lap (three kilometer) event in under four minutes. She clocked in a 3:53.048, a full seven seconds faster than the third place finisher. Marian's Elizabeth Stevenson took gold in 3:50.005.
She followed it up in the evening with another silver medal in the Women's Points Race. She scored in all 10 of the scored sprints and racked up 57 total points.
McDonald also earned silver in the Men's Points Race. He recorded at least one point in nine of 15 sprints during the 90-lap (30 kilometer) race and finished with 25 points.
The championships concluded with the Co-Ed Team Sprint. Jastrab, Erik Castillo, McDonald, William Seitz and Isaac Bryant combined to finish fourth in 2:20.589.
Jastrab and McDonald each claimed third in their respective Omnium standings
Jastrab finished the championship with two national runner-up showings in the Individual Pursuit and Points Race. She grabbed bronze in the Women's Sprint, Women's Omnium and in the Women's Team Pursuit alongside Gracie Pendleton, Gabriella Cedillos-Dixon and Marjie Bemis. She also made the podium in the Women's Time Trial.
McDonald led the Milligan men with a silver medal in the Men's Poins Race and bronze in the Men's Scratch Race and Men's Omnium. Isaac Bryant, Erik Castillo, McDonald and William Seitz posted the Buffs' first-ever podium appearance in the Men's Team Pursuit with a fourth place showing.
In total, the Buffs collected three silver medals, five bronze, 11 podium appearances (top five) and 14 top-10s.
