Bemis, Buffs runners-up at road race national championships
Madeline Bemis earned an individual runner-up finish, and the Milligan cycling team also earned a runner-up finish last weekend at the 2019 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Race National Championships.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (May 14, 2019) – Madeline Bemis earned an individual runner-up finish, and the Milligan College cycling team also earned a runner-up finish last weekend at the 2019 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Race National Championships.
The result at the final event of the season capped another successful season for Milligan cycling. The Buffs took fifth in track and ninth in mountain bike last fall before landing seventh at cyclocross during the winter season, culminating with four top-nine national finishes during the 2018-19 season. Bemis, the national champion in mountain bike season, led the women while Isaac Bryant led the men with a sixth-place finish at the road race national championship event.
Milligan started the weekend Friday with a strong finish on both sides of the team time trial. The women, undefeated up until point at 6-0 this season, suffered their first defeat but still managed a runner-up finish. The men took sixth.
In Saturday's road race, Bemis (second) and Vanessa Botero (14th) finished out front for the women while Bryant (fifth) and Brian Sciba (19th) finished out front for the men. Sunday's criterium saw Bemis (fifth) and Tori Kanizer (ninth) lead the women. Bryant and Ruben Bacon went 11th and 12th to lead the men.
