MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Aug. 15, 2018) -- Throughout the summer, the Milligan College cheer and dance teams hosted camps for local schools in the area.
Each camp was customized to fit the needs and skill level of the teams in attendance. The camps varied between a one-day and five-day workshop. The focus of the camps was to improve the teams' current skill level, while also teaching new material and skills.
The spirit squads also taught the proper techniques for jumps, tumbling, stunts, motion drills, cheers, chants and dance. Appropriate stretching and conditioning methods were also a key teaching aspect. Toward the end of each camp day, the Milligan cheer and dance teams would incorporate fun team-bonding games and one member would give a motivational talk.
"We love running these camps," says spirit coordinator Chelsea Woodacre. "Everyone benefits from them. My girls gain just as much from teaching them as the campers do learning. And in our sport, learning and understanding the correct techniques is imperative to become a successful cheerleader or dancer."
Over the course of the basketball season, some of the teams will perform at halftime. If anyone is interested in a cheerleading or dance camp hosted by the Milligan Spirit Teams, please contact coach Woodacre.
