Buffs Baseball Falls Short to Alice Lloyd in Midweek Contest

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – Milligan University baseball squared off with the Alice Lloyd College Eagles, a non-conference opponent, in a midweek bout in Pippa Passes, Ky. Unfortunately for the Buffs, the offense struggled to produce, as the Eagles earned the victory by a score of 7-2.
Braxton Baird led the game off with a band, hitting a solo home run in the first at-bat of the game to put the Buffs up early, 1-0.
The offense for Alice Lloyd settled in and found their groove in the middle innings, as they responded in the third inning, scoring one run on two hits to tie the game 1-1.
Alice Lloyd's second run would come in the fourth inning, as the Eagles got a runner on with a single, moved him around, and scored him on a wild pitch to make the score 2-1.
The offense would continue to produce in the fourth inning for the Eagles, as they would score two runs on four hits and a costly error by the Buff's defense, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Pitching for both sides would dominate until the seventh inning, as the Buffs found a little life with a Gaven Jones double. Bryce Burkey would later move him over with a flyout, and Ladon Lutterman went on to drive him in with a pinch-hit RBI groundout, making the score 4-2.
Alice Lloyd would punch back in the eighth inning, scoring the final three runs of the ballgame on three hits, including a two-run double. The Eagles held the lead in the ninth and defeated Milligan 7-2.
Milligan's offense could only muster six hits in the contest, with Baird (2-5) and Wyatt Heidle (2-2) combining for four of them. Jones (2B), Heidle (2B), and Baird (HR) had extra base hits in the match, with Baird and Lutterman collecting the teams only two RBIs.
Four pitchers toed the rubber for the Buffs, with Brycen Denton getting the start. Denton went three innings, giving up one earned run on four hits. Conner Hendrix allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work. Cord Babcock followed him up with two scoreless innings of work, allowing four hits. Creed Werker finished the day on the mound for Milligan, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings of work.
The Milligan Buffaloes will look to get back in the win column in Bluefield, Va., as they will face off with the Bluefield University Rams in an AAC Conference series this Friday, Apr. 4, and Saturday, Apr. 5. The opening game will take place on Friday, with a doubleheader to follow on Saturday.
