The Buffs continue to surge, having won seven of their last nine contests. They now sit at 29-16 overall and 17-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
Coming up for the Buffaloes is the final AAC series of the campaign at Truett McConnell University. A single game will be played on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m., and a doubleheader will take place on Friday, April 26, starting at 1 p.m.
Milligan got the bats going early in the tilt, scoring a pair in the top of the second on a two-run round-tripper to right-center field by Ryan Molinari. Gaven Jones would come in to score, giving the Buffs a 2-0 lead.
Montreat responded with a solo homer in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half, but the Buffaloes grabbed that run back in the top of the third on a solo blast down the left field line by Caleb Berry, making it 3-1.
Three more runs would cross the plate for Milligan in the top of the fourth, as Andrew Mathias scored Jack Sutton and Molinari on a two-RBI double down the left-field line. Then, after Mathias advanced to third, Angel Lobo sent him home on a sacrifice fly to left, making it 6-1 Buffs.
An inning later, Braden Spano launched his sixth long ball of the season, which was also of the solo variety. His round-tripper made it 7-1 for Milligan.
Two bases-loaded walks for the Cavaliers offense in the bottom of the fifth brought in a couple of runs to make it 7-3 in Milligan's favor after five full frames.
To cap off the afternoon in the top of the eighth, Sutton mashed a solo shot to straight away center field, making the final tally 8-3.
