MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 16, 2024) - The Milligan University baseball team claimed the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series win over visiting Pikeville as it won the rubber game emphatically with a 19-1, seven-inning romp on Saturday.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (March 16, 2024) - The Milligan University baseball team claimed the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series win over visiting Pikeville as it won the rubber game emphatically with a 19-1, seven-inning romp on Saturday.
The Buffs and Bears split the doubleheader on Thursday, but Milligan took the series win with the decisive, 18-run victory.
Milligan improved to 18-8 overall and 8-4 in league play. Currently, the Buffaloes are sitting third in the AAC standings behind Reinhardt and Tennessee Wesleyan.
The Buffaloes scored early and often on Saturday, scoring five in the first, four in the second, five in the third, and four in the fourth for an 18-0 cushion through four innings.
Ty Yurkovich launched a solo home run in the fifth to push the margin to 19-0.
Pikeville collected its lone run in the sixth as Milligan cruised to the victory.
In all, the Buffaloes blasted eight home runs in the win. Vasili Kaloudis belted two as he drove in four runs on the day, while Yurkovich, Caleb Berry, Braden Spano, Gaven Jones, and Jack Sutton also had a four-bagger.
Berry and Spano drove in three RBI, while Jose Paula, Ryan Molinari, and Jones each had two RBI.
Ian Weil picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
Milligan is back in action on Tuesday when it plays at Johnson in non-conference action. The nine-inning game is set for 6 p.m. first pitch.
