MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 13, 2024) – The Milligan University baseball team fell to No. 8 Cumberlands 13-2 in seven innings at Anglin Field on Tuesday.
The Buffs fall to 6-3 on the season while the Patriots rise to 3-1.
Milligan stranded seven baserunners in the game's first four innings, including leaving the bases loaded in the third. Cumberlands swatted a pair of two-out two-run homers in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
The Patriots took advantage of five walks and a hit batter in the sixth and seventh innings as the visitors' lead grew to 7-0 after the sixth and 13-0 after the top of the seventh.
Caleb Berry drove in Andrew Mathias with a double in the seventh to bring home Milligan's first run. Jose Paula singled in courtesy runner Roangeraud Fraai before Cumberlands emerged with a mercy rule victory.
Berry had two doubles and an RBI. Jack Sutton walked twice.
Jacob Bishop struck out five in 2.1 innings in relief. Vice LaConte had two strikeouts.
Milligan hosts a doubleheader against Indiana Tech on Friday.
