Baseball improves to 5-0 with 11-2 win over ALC
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 7, 2024) – The Milligan University baseball team moved to 5-0 on the season with an 11-2 victory over Alice Lloyd on Wednesday afternoon.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (February 7, 2024) – The Milligan University baseball team moved to 5-0 on the season with an 11-2 victory over Alice Lloyd on Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles scored the game's opening run in the top of the first. Milligan responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the frame and the game's next 11 runs before ALC scored its final run in the seventh inning of the seven-inning contest.
Caleb Berry and Ryan Molinari had RBI doubles in the first inning and Jack Sutton smacked a two-run single to give the Buffs a 5-1 lead.
Milligan added three runs via sacrifice fly, scored on a pair of ALC errors and Andrew Mathias cranked a solo home run in the fifth to build Milligan's 11-1 lead. The Eagles added another run in the seventh but Vince LaConte had three strikeouts in the seventh to end the game.
Gaven Jones went 4-4 at the plate, scored twice and had his courtesy runner score twice. Jones was also Milligan's starter and the winning pitcher as he allowed one run in four innings of work.
Jose Paula went 2-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Sutton drove in a pair while Spano, Molinari and Mathias each had one RBI and one run scored.
Joe Ducharme worked two scoreless innings in relief.
Milligan travels to (RV) Middle Georgia State this weekend for a three-game series.
